About Alyshia
(Registered Clinical Psychologist)
I am a Registered Clinical Psychologist in Ōtautahi/Christchurch, Aotearoa/New Zealand. I have a relaxed, warm, and compassionate approach, as well as being flexible to the needs of the client/whānau I am working with. I strive to provide a safe and non-judgemental space for clients to find their footing, process their difficulties, and develop skills and confidence to navigate pathways forward that are guided by their own values and goals.
Alongside working with anxiety, worry, emotion regulation/management, trauma, panic, and life-transitions, I have a particular focus in supporting people with:
Grief and loss,
Antenatal or postnatal adjustment and mental health (i.e. mothers, fathers, and wider whānau/family),
Birth trauma,
Pregnancy loss, miscarriage, termination for medical reasons (TFMR), terminations, stillbirth, infant loss, pregnancy and parenting after loss.
I will also consider all others who contact me seeking help and support for difficulties that don’t fit with the above descriptions – just reach out to see if I have availability or am the right psychologist to support you.
My practice is largely informed by evidence based therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Across my training and career, I have experience with both assessment and treatment in mental health, physical health and criminal justice settings. I also have experience providing managerial and clinical oversight for a team of psychologists and therapists delivering intensive group-based therapy.
In my home life, my husband and I raise our living child and have personal experience of baby loss. This has shaped the compassion and sensitivity I bring to my work and has led to a clinical interest in resilience and post-traumatic growth, particularly following significant loss. In my spare time I run for fun, bake, and enjoy time out in the sun and spending quality time with family and friends.
I also provide supervision to other professionals, including supervision of group-based treatment/therapy, and am available for consultation and trainings upon request.
