Frequently Asked Questions

  • A referral is welcome, though not required. You can get in touch with me directly if you would like to enquire about booking an assessment or therapy.

  • Yes! Whilst I find in-person sessions are often easier to explore together with resources, online sessions can be just as beneficial, and can be arranged where required.

  • Yes, you are welcome to bring along anyone you would like to support you. They are able to either wait within our waiting room, or we are able to include them within sessions as you feel is appropriate.

  • Opening up can be hard and it is important in therapy that you feel safe and supported. During sessions, I take notes electronically to document what happens during our sessions. Clinical psychologists in Aotearoa are required to keep notes for at least 10 years. Your health information is kept in a secure electronic cloud based record system that is password protected and only accessible by your psychologist.

What we talk about in sessions is kept confidential and private, unless an exception is required by law. Other limitations include:

    • It is rare, but if I receive information that suggests you or another person are at risk of harm. In most instances, I would do my best to discuss this with you first where possible.

    • Supervision is required by law for all psychologists in Aotearoa (New Zealand). As such, cases may be discussed with a supervisor/s. Supervisors are bound by the same confidentiality and Psychologists Code of Ethics. Further information about the oversight and regulations of psychologists in Aotearoa can be found on the New Zealand Psychologists Board’s website.

Your information would not be discussed with third parties (i.e. whānau/family members, GP or other health professionals) without your specific consent.

  • Because 50-minute appointment times are set aside just for you, it is appreciated if you can give as much notice as possible to cancel or reschedule an appointment. At a minimum, there is a 24-hour notice required, otherwise you will be charged a cancellation fee. I also recognise that life can be unpredictable; in the case of genuine emergencies or sudden illness, exceptions to this charge can be discussed.

  • There is limited off-street parking available for clients at the Mental Health Co-lab. There is also usually plenty of nearby street parking available on Craven St, Main South Road, and Watt’s Road that would be sufficient for the duration of your appointment.

  • Typically, invoices are sent following a session and are to be paid within 48 hours. This is with the exception of other assessments that are longer in duration (e.g., ADHD assessments), where partial payment is required prior to the initial assessment session.
